| Using
proper operating practices, the load and arbor
will always be balanced. However, when counterweight
sets are not properly balanced, the operator
can lose control of the set allowing it to run
away possibly causing damage or
injury. The SureLock rope lock incorporates
a load sensing mechanism, and can tell if a
set is more than 50 lbs. out of balance. If
the set is out of balance, the SureLock cannot
be opened, preventing runaways. |

User
training Operators of moving equipment
of any type must be trained to understand
the equipment and the proper methods of
operation. No one should be allowed to
handle any equipment backstage unless
they are properly trained in the operation
of the equipment. More

Loading
Gallery (bridge) Loads are added
to or removed from the batten when it
is at floor level. When the batten is
at floor level, the counterweight arbor
is at its highest level. To balance the
load on the batten, weight is added to
or removed from the counterweight arbor.
In order to do this, there must be a loading
gallery. Without a loading gallery
it is difficult to safely balance rigging
sets. The use of a SureLock will not solve
this problem. A loading gallery is a necessity
for any counterweight rigging system. |

Annual
Inspection your rigging system
should be inspected annually by a theatre
rigging specialist. We suggest rigging
dealers who are members of the Entertainment
Services Technology Association.
This is a non-profit trade association
who's members meet membership requirements
and subscribe to a Code of Conduct. |
