How does it work?
Your auditorum or theatre probably uses counterweight rigging. This reliable, cost effective theatrical rigging has been used for many years. It relies on balancing the weight of the scenery, curtains or lighting equipment with a weight. At one point sandbags were used, but now we use guided arbors that hold steel weights.

By adjusting the weights in the arbor the load can be balanced, allowing easy movement of the load with a hand line. When sets are not being moved a rope lock is used to lock the hand line to prevent movement.

When loads are added or removed from the batten an equal amount of weight is added to or removed from the arbor at the loading gallery. A loading gallery is an essential part of a counterweight rigging system. Without a loading gallery it is difficult to properly balance the rigging set safely.
